# The "While Being" Framework — How I Stopped Fighting My ADHD Brain

For 34 years, I treated my brain like a broken machine that needed fixing.

Meditation apps. Focus timers. Body doubling. Caffeine stacks. Prescription stimulants. Each one worked for a week, then the novelty wore off and I was back to square one.

The problem wasn't the tools. The problem was the premise: that my brain was wrong and needed to be corrected.

## The Shift

I stopped trying to focus. I stopped trying to meditate. I stopped trying to be "present."

Instead, I started asking: "What am I while being?"

Not "What am I doing?" Not "What should I be doing?" Just: what is it like to be me, right now, without judgment?

## The Practice

When I notice I'm distracted — doomscrolling, hyperfocusing on the wrong thing, avoiding a task — I don't fight it. I observe it.

1. **Name the state**: "I am doomscrolling."
2. **Locate the sensation**: Where in my body is the urge coming from?
3. **Ask the question**: "What am I while being?"
4. **Wait for the answer**: Not with words. With sensation.

Sometimes the answer is anxiety. Sometimes it's boredom masquerading as anxiety. Sometimes it's a genuine need for rest that I've been ignoring.

## Why It Works

Fighting distraction costs energy. Observing it costs nothing.

When I fight, I create a second layer of suffering: the original distraction plus the self-judgment about being distracted. When I observe, there's only one layer. And oddly, that single layer is easier to let go of.

## The Paradox

The more I stopped trying to focus, the more I naturally focused.

Not because I mastered some technique. Because I stopped burning all my energy on self-correction and had some left over for the actual work.

## For You

If you're ADHD, autistic, or just exhausted from trying to be a different person than you are — try this:

Don't fix yourself. Don't optimize yourself. Just be, while being, and see what happens.
